Chinese GuestsWhat a joy to celebrate Chinese New Year and to hear the walls of The Fellowship echo with songs and prayers in Mandarin. Whats going on? A new Chinese church is starting. The goal is to reach out to South Shore residents who need a worship service in Chinese. It is a privilege for our church, The Fellowship, to play host to this fledgling group until they have a building of their own. This new church is a project of Chinese Bible Church of Greater Boston (CBCGB). Located in Lexington, CBCGB is the largest Chinese Church in the Boston Area. They have already started new churches on the North Shore (Lowell) and West Side (Acton). Minister Jiang Wei representing CBCGB has met with our elders. He is commissioned to draw together several of the CBCGB fellowship groups that have already been meeting for a long time in South Shore communities. Is there a need for such a church? Yes! About 1500 Chinese live this side of Route 24. Another 2000 live on the other side. Thats not counting the 20,000 in Quincy, where there are already some Chinese ministries. Heres the plan: Jiang Wei hopes to have a regular Sunday worship service starting about September. They will use our facilities on Sunday afternoons. In the meantime, they will try to build momentum by bringing the Chinese fellowship groups together every Friday night at The Fellowship. Some sixty or so gather, along with their children who enjoy an AWANA program. This Friday night meeting plans a once a month outreach event on a Saturday night, usually at The Fellowship when our scheduling calendar permits. The Chinese New Year celebration was the first of these. Our Youth Director Chris Anderson has been asked to work with the teenagers of this group. He will meet them at first on Fridays, but the goal is to draw them into our own Tuesday (middle school) and Wednesday (high school) programs. Lets all welcome our new partners in ministry. We have found them to be wonderful guests: warm, genial and considerate. Even if there are occasionally minor challenges in sharing the same building, its well worth it to be partners with such a godly enterprise. Above all, lets pray for them. (English is okay!)
