Children and youth are a priority at The Fellowship! The attitude
has never developed here that church is primarily an adult enterprise,
with youngsters shooed silently to the sidelines where babysitters keep
them quiet. We believe children can and must learn the spiritual walk of
living by faith in Christ. Not only can they learn, but they can teach
us many things about faith and love . . . if we may only tune in to our
younger sisters and brothers. Rita Mackinnon is our Director of Children's Ministry. She is doing a wonderful job with the children from nursery to 5th grade.
Worship and Sunday School
"Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it . . . " Proverbs 22:6
In an effort to "train up" our children, one step at a time, children's ministry has provided unique opportunities to introduce the children to worship.
The first part of each Sunday School class includes teaching the children
elements of worship and worship songs. Some of these songs are ones
they will hear in the larger Worship Service. As they come to know
these songs, they will be better able to participate in the larger
assembly and feel that they belong.
The "one step at a time" approach to introducing the children to the larger Worship Service entails:
- Newborns-Toddlers can go to nursery both services
- PreK-1st grade going to both Sunday School classes (when parents
attend both Sunday School and Worship Service)
- 2nd - 3rd grade attending one Sunday School class and 20 minutes
of Worship Service, then dismissal to Sunday School class
- 4th-5th grade attending one Sunday School class and one Worship
Service with their family
We hope this "one step at a time" approach will acquaint the children a little more each year to worshipping with the larger assembly.

Mission Statement for Children's Ministry
Our mission is founded upon Matthew 28:18-20 in which Jesus commands: "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always to the very end of the age." We are to teach children to obey the commandments of Jesus, build up one another in love, and share the Good News. |
